The proven live food for reptiles: MILF WARMER! Nutrient-rich and always affordable.
Item number RK0417C
Mealworms - which in reality are not worms, but the larvae of the meal beetle (Tenebrio molitor) - are very popular in terraristics as feed animals and are appreciated by all insectivores among reptiles. We recommend the administration of mealworms especially when reptiles need an extra portion of nutrients. This is often the case after the laying of the eggs, after a hibernation or also with longer-term refusal to feed. Mealworms are feed insects with a high fat content and are well suited to replenishing the body's reserves. With healthy reptiles, mealworms can of course be served as a snack in between without any problems. However, when giving mealworms as live food, always remember that these feed animals are very fatty. As sole or staple food for reptiles, the mealworms are therefore naturally out of the question.
Mealworms are not only appreciated in terraristics as food insects: Many amphibians, young birds and also some fish species like live mealworms very much. The latter also ensures that mealworms are preferably used as fishing baits. That is perfectly all right, but it is worth pointing out a dangerous bad habit. Many anglers find it chic to eat a mealworm in between - either as a test of courage or for the fun of it. Please don't! For reptiles, mealworms are compatible and recommendable as live food, but they definitely harm the human organism! Mealworms can transmit the so-called dwarf tapeworm and believe us: Once this parasite has settled in and multiplied, you will in future be a permanent guest at your trusted doctor! So please leave these food insects alone to your terrarium protégés. Because: reptiles and other terrarium animals are completely immune against the dwarf tapeworm - the unwanted guest nests exclusively in mammals.
Mealworms are very well suited as feed animals to keep them in stock. Mealworms make little demands on housing and nutrition, the feed animals can also be housed in larger quantities and mealworms also have a long shelf life. We recommend a suitable faunarium (Faunabox) and a substrate of wheat bran and oat flakes for storing mealworms, which you should simply keep dry to prevent mould growth. One piece of untreated apple is enough for the mealworms to absorb enough liquid. If you keep the mealworms below a temperature of 22° C, their development slows down significantly.
